With the well-detailed Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website, applying for a visa to Canada is now really straightforward. The website contains all the information you need to make a complete visa application from start to finish.
In this article, we will go through the step-by-step process of making a complete Canadian student visa application.
To begin this application process, students should visit IRCC’s website after receiving the letter of acceptance and paying the tuition fees to start applying.
Collect all necessary documents
This step includes writing a letter of explanation, obtaining the CAQ if applying to Quebec, collecting bank statements, scanning passport pages, and completing all documents contained in the checklist.
Make sure that all your documents and information are valid and up-to-date.
Submit your visa application
Applications are done online. Students are encouraged to apply fully online to expedite processing time, easily add additional documents, and receive application updates through their online accounts.
Students must obtain a Canadian student visa package and submit their applications electronically. Student visa packages are available online through the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) website.
Eligible students will receive an individual document checklist. This checklist provides students with a list of required documents, an estimate, and guidelines for the next steps. When applying online, they must confirm their eligibility by answering questions on the CIC website.
- Students should create their MyCIC account and answer all questions about their application correctly.
- Students will receive a document checklist to upload and submit their documents via the CIC portal.
- A scanner or printer is required to complete this procedure.
Once a student’s online document checklist has been completed, the application has been completed, and the application processing fee has been paid, they will be able to submit the complete application to CIC within 60 days of profile creation.
CIC will send a letter to students detailing how to submit biometrics. After receiving instructions, students will be asked to provide biometrics, fingerprints, and a photograph.
Additional biometric fees may apply.
Pass the medical examination
Typically students receive a medical examination request letter upon submission of documents and biometrics. This letter will contain information about how and where students should take their medical exams.
The deadline to submit this is usually 30 days from the date of issue of the request.
Receive passport request letter
Although this letter is not an official confirmation, usually, CIC will only send the passport application letter if the application is approved. This letter will explain how to submit their passport for a stamp or visa stamp.
Students must upload their passports within 30 days after receiving this request to receive a visit visa or electronic travel authorization (eTA).
Attend a face-to-face interview if required
This is not very common but students may be required to attend an in-person interview and submit additional documents. The requirements and nature of the additional requirements depend on the student’s request.
Interviews will be conducted with CIC officials in the student’s home country.
